Renewable Energy Policies
The principal driver of today's impressive renewable energy growth is policy. Growth of renewables is strongest where and when the policy-makers in charge have established favourable conditions. Today, we can benefit from a rich set of policy experiences that have been made at national and local levels.

Policies respond to specific national and local realities. There is not one kind of policy that fits in all contexts. This overview of renewable energy policy-making provides a commented guide to authoritative sources of information and lessons learnt.

In the second chapter we consider more specifically those energy systems where renewable energy technologies have achieved a high significance. These relevant markets for renewable energies merit special attention.
