Renewable Energy Policy Advisor
REN21 is seeking a Renewable Energy Policy Advisor to support its Secretariat in Paris.
REN21 is a global policy network that provides a forum for international leadership on renewable energy. Its goal is to bolster policy development for the rapid expansion of renewable energies in developing and industrialised economies.

Open to a wide variety of dedicated stakeholders, REN21 connects governments, international institutions, non-governmental organisations, industry associations, and other partnerships and initiatives.

REN21 is supported by a Secretariat. The REN21 Secretariat has been operating since 2006 and is located in the offices of the UNEP Division of Technology, Industry and Economics in Paris, France.
Responsibilities
  • You will guide REN21's work in providing authoritative information and promoting knowledge generation on renewable energy policy by monitoring international developments and ensuring that gaps in the information and knowledge bases are effectively filled.
  • You will assist in preparing substantive reports and papers on renewable energy policy and contribute to information and outreach activities on various publishing channels.
  • Besides that you will serve as an advisor and information resource for REN21-members on policy, technology, climate and market issues.
  • You will assist the Head of the REN21 Secretariat in managing the programme and developing and revising strategies in order to fulfill the mission.
  • In international high-level policy events and through the Internet you will support the strategic positioning of the REN21 network and its products.
Qualifications
  • You have an academic degree in economics, environmental studies or similar and several years of experience in the energy, environment and/or development field.
  • As an international expert in renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental policies you have a sound understanding of the developments in international energy and climate policy.
  • You enjoy networking on different levels to promote your goals successfully and have outstanding written and oral communication skills in English. Any other language is your advantage. Also you have advanced computer skills and software aptitude.
Duration
As soon as possible - December 2010 with extension envisaged.

This challenging position is based in Paris with a good deal of international travel required. The successful candidate will be employed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, Germany and will work as part of the REN21 Secretariat. Selection Guidelines for Hosting an International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC) (revised version)
A set of simple guidelines for the selection of the host of the International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC) has been agreed by the REN21 Bureau. To date, one country has submitted a formal application to host the IREC 2012. The Bureau will decide by 15 July 2010, on a “no objection” basis, on the host of the IREC 2012.
