COP28 Must Deliver a Fair and equitable Renewable Energy and energy efficiency package
Dubai, UAE – Earlier this week, around 123 countries signed a pledge to triple renewable capacity and double energy efficiency improvements by 2030.
This is reflected in the most recent COP28 decision text. However, these global goals are not enough to drive the energy transition regionally and nationally. For these goals to gain the political support of a broad majority of parties, proponents will need to build confidence beyond the inherent benefits of these goals by including the routes to their implementation. The COP28 decision text must articulate how an ambitious package of energy goals can be delivered in practice with reference to finance, technology transfer and capacity building to support developing countries to galvanise the energy transition.
What: A fair and equitable renewable energy and energy efficiency package that enables developing countries to deliver on the energy transition.
