2017 UNECE Renewable Energy Status Report

Despite comprising over 300 million inhabitants and representing 4.9% of the world’s GDP, 17 UNECE countries in South and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia had only 0.2% or USD 0.4 billion of global renewable energy investment in 2015. Attracting investment is a major challenge in these countries, despite numerous support schemes and policies for renewable energy.

This report provides a comprehensive overview of the status of renewable energy and energy efficiency markets, industry, policy and regulatory frameworks, and investment activities. It covers Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro, Russian Federation, Serbia, Tajikistan, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

We would like to thank in particular the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany (BMWi) which supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag, the national parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany.
